Element Case Sector 5 Black Ops Elite
The Sector 5 Black Ops Elite case for the iPhone 5/5s is Element Case’s flagship case in their tactical line. Aside from the usual features of the Sector 5 case, the Black Ops Elite also uses G10, a durable plastic laminate normally used in handgun grips and tactical knives. I picked up a sample during CES and used it for several weeks. I really liked it for the most part, but had a couple of issues with it.

DESIGN & FEATURES
Element Case Sector 5 cases are very unique in style and detail. They’re unlike a majority of the cases available on the market. The aluminum frame is CNC machined and requires eight screws to keep your iPhone 5/5s secure. You actually only need to remove one screw to install it, however.
The Sector 5 case also doesn’t have a permanent back. When installing the Sector 5, you put the frame on, then you attach the back plate separately. The back plate has a very strong adhesive that will not come off easily. In fact, when I did try to remove it, I needed two plastic spudgers to do it and I broke one of them in the process. The Sector 5 isn’t really meant to be removed very often after installation. You do, however, want to take your iPhone out of the frame now and then to clear out the dust and lint that ends up collecting near the sides. Element Case includes two sets of protective adhesives (rash guards) to prevent scratches from trapped dirt and debris.
The Sector 5 Black Ops Elite is very easy to grip and feels very durable thanks to the G10 material. My iPhone never slipped out of my hands and even if it had, I’m confident that it would’ve survived unscathed. The right side of the frame can be sealed with a G10 insert for a better grip, or you can leave the insert out if you need easy access to the SIM slot.
The left side of the Sector 5’s frame is open so that you can access the volume and the ring/silent switch. Unfortunately, it’s just not that easy to fit your finger through the frame to adjust the volume or flip the switch.
The bottom of the Sector 5 has a large opening for the speakers, lightning port and headphone jack. The lightning port works perfectly with OEM Apple lightning cables, but third-party cables with larger ends may not fit properly. The headphone jack will also have problems with headphones that use larger plugs.
The top of the Sector 5 has a covered sleep/wake button that works well.
The Sector 5 Black Ops Elite also comes with a nice tactical holster. I didn’t find myself using it most of the time, but it’s certainly a nice option for when you don’t want to carry your phone in your pocket.
The Sector 5 Black Ops Elite is not your average iPhone case. It oozes high-end style and costs a ton. It also has some functional drawbacks. However, if you’re looking for a case with distinctive styling and rugged good looks, this just might be the ultimate case for your iPhone 5/5s.
